For information on any of these ministries, email Phyllis Behrend, Connections Assistant.

New Class for DivorceCare and DivorceCare4Kids, Wednesdays from 7 – 8:30 pm.

Find help and healing for the hurt of separation and divorce. DivorceCare is a friendly, caring group of people who walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences. Don’t go through separation or divorce alone.

  • DivorceCare seminars and support groups are led by people who understand what you are going through and want to help. You’ll gain access to valuable DivorceCare resources to help you deal with the pain of the past and look forward to rebuilding your life.
  • DivorceCare groups meet weekly to help you face these challenges and move toward rebuilding your life. Each DivorceCare session has two distinct elements:

A Seminar with Experts: During the first 30–40 minutes of the meeting, each DivorceCare group watches a video seminar featuring top experts on divorce and recovery subjects. These videos are produced in an interesting-to-watch television magazine format featuring expert interviews, real-life case studies and on-location video.

A Support Group with Focus: After viewing the video, DivorceCare group participants spend time as a support group, discussing what was presented in that week’s video seminar and what is going on in the lives of group members.

What is DC4K?

DC4K is a powerful ministry for kids 5–12 years of age. DC4K is a special group to help your children heal from the pain caused by a separation or divorce. DC4K provides your children with a safe and neutral place to recognize and learn to share their feelings. Children meet other kids who understand how they feel. Children experiencing divorce tell us they feel alone and helpless. Your children may feel scared, sad and confused. They may hide their feelings from you because they are worried about your happiness or because they do not know how to express their feelings appropriately.

For 13 weeks your children become involved in a fun, caring group at a church near you. The weekly session topics help your children learn that God’s love strengthens them and helps them turn their sadness to hope and their anger to joy.

Each session is filled with motivating and exciting activities. Games, crafts, role playing, discussion times, journaling and workbooks help your children process the divorce and move forward in their lives. The music CDs, snacks, read aloud stories, exercises and Bible verses teach your children to relax and rest secure in God’s love. The Kids Like Me and Stories from the Bible video dramas present stories of children just like your children, who are experiencing divorce-related problems and have found help and encouragement.

Armed Forces Ministry:

Through the Connections Care Minsitry, a list of Military personnel connected through Salem is constantly being updated. As a mission project, Salem's Priscilla Guild, part of the international Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, decided to take on writing to Salem Military friends and family. Recently, the ladies signed cards and letters to show our support and thanks. The funds to mail items come from Priscilla Guild members.

From Iraq: Lance Corporal Dustin Wayne Osgood. “I appreciate the support and prayers. I tell the rest of the troops that share my faith about the ones back home supporting us. I really appreciate it and thank you!” Dustin is a Ground Communications Organizational Repair Technician serving in Iraq. Tomball Mayor Gretchen Fagan presented a Blue Star Service Flag to the family of Lance Corporal Dustin W. Osgood, June 4.

Bert Yerex, the granddaughter of Joyce Yerex, is a generator expert, stationed now in Norfolk, VA. Her ship, an LSD, a troop transport ship, now on maneuvers off shore. She’s had training in using mace, tear gas etc., so they know what to do when they encounter the enemy. She will be leaving the end of August or September for Iraq and has volunteered for land duty repairing generators or whatever the need is. She will be going back and forth from Iraq to her ship wherever there is need. Bert turns 20 this fall.

Care Ministries:

Our care ministries are dedicated to assisting and providing support for members, friends and the community at large. Care teams minister in people's homes, at their hospital bed or in their prison cell to provide fellowship, encouragement and assurance that, no matter how difficult a situation, that they are loved by God and their church family.

Through different avenues of support, Salem's care ministry provides for physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of people.
